He worked as a blacksmith in Crickhowell, Wales, before moving to South Australia. |

"Builder:J.Jeffreys According to Mclean family history, the Bevidere hotel was built by Jeffrey Jeffreys who married Ann Leslie (nee McLean), the widow of the towns original blacksmith, Robert Leslie." "upon arrival Australian arrival purchased 1400 acres and returned to UK and then built and ran the hotel...Contained 15 rooms with the dining room able to be converted to larger area-known as the Big Room, suitable for meting, dances and other general community uses." Licensees are listed including J Jeffreys from 1860-1866. and two other Mclean ancestors-D McRae in 1872-1874 and Henry Lewis 1877-1879." |
