Mary McMillan - born 28th June 1789 in Kilmallie
Mary McMillan - born 28th June 1789 in Kilmallie
* 1789 - McMillan, Mary dau to Don'd McMillan & ........ Cameron - 28th June.
* CAUTION: This is almost three years after her parentís wedding in Callich but it has not confirmed that this is the correct OPR because the motherís first name was not recorded and there was not a specific location within the large parish of Kilmallie.
* Another OPR has a Mary born on 25th Oct 1805 in Calop in the parish of Kilmallie to parents Donald McMillan and Mary Cameron. Calop is probably the Callop River that is 5 kms west of the end of Loch Eil. This is not the OPR for our Mary because it is about 10 years after the year indicated by a census in 1851 and her death record.

F60 - Clan - Cameron and MacMillan ancestries
We are searching for any possible connections in our family tree to ancient clans. No direct ties could be found with the Camerons before the early 1700s, but the MacMillans can be linked back many generations.

D55 - John Oag McPhee and Christian (Christ'n) Cameron
D55 - John Oag McPhee and Christian (Christ'n) Cameron
John Oag McPhee was the last of a line of McPhee tenants of Crieff farm. Christ'n Cameron was probably born in 1771 in Achnacarry to parents Jane Robertson and Donald Cameron, the saw-miller. John and Christ'n were married in 1786 and their daughter, Christina, was born the next year. In 1788 John took over the Crieff tenancy after his father died. In 1804 they were evicted because of the clearances for farming sheep rather than cattle. They settled on the outskirts of Fort William.

D61 - Jean Cameron & Donald MacMillan
D61 - Jean Cameron & Donald MacMillan
Jean's childhood in the 1770s was on Achnacarry where her father was the sawmiller and her mother taught her handicrafts and English. In 1786 she married Donald MacMillan from Callich. Little is known about their lives there but they were probably at the Callich farm until 1804 when the property was sold and everyone was evicted. They might have resettled nearer Fort William where Donald was an Excise Officer.

D57 - Donald Cameron & Jane Robertson
D57 - Donald Cameron & Jane Robertson
Donald and Jean met when they were each training in Aberdeen in the 1760s. He was training as a millwright and she was learning homecrafts. They eloped to Achnacarry where Donald was a saw miller. Jane was from the lowlands, and had to adjust to highland culture and learn Gaelic - she was always considered an outsider.
Jean and Donald had at least two children - Jane in the 1760s and Christ'n about 1771. Jean taught them needlework and English. Donald's saw mill developed to become a substantial supplier of lumber to distant customers.
