    • Biography Notes: OBITUARY: "Mr J. F. H. Inglis, of Peterborough, who died on May 21. was born at Strathalbyn in 1872. His mother was one of the noted pioneer McLeans of that district. The family went north to Kanaka Station, where Mr Inglis spent his youth. About 1892 Mr Inglis went to Western Australia. On his return to South Australia he was known as one of the best wheat carriers in the north. On one occasion he carried and stacked more than 1,300 three-bushel bags in a day. In 1898 he married Miss Lucy A. Need, and the couple went to Broken Hill. where Mr Inglis worked for 13 years on the mines In 1911 the family removed to Peterborough where Mr Inglis started in the building trade with the late Mr E. Carruthers. Later, he established a business as mason and contractor with his eldest son. When the Peterborough bowling green was opened Mr Inglis was appointed greenkeeper and caretaker. He was for 42 years a member of the Silver City Manchester Unity Lodge, and an adherent of the Methodist Church. He has left a wife, five sons, Messers M. lnglis (Virginia), J. Inglis (Adelaide), Hugh Inglis (Peterborough), Don Inglis (A.|.F. abroad) and J. Inglis (A.M.C. abroad), and five daughters, Mesdames F. Willcocks (Peterborough), G. Breda (Flinders Pank), N. Pursche (Peterborough). J Osman (Gladstone), and R. May (Peterborough)." They had 10 children. James Inglis died at aged 68 on 21/5/1941. Lucy Ann died on 13/11/1949 both at Peterborough where they are buried.

This might have been written in the 1990s. A copy of this book is in the McLean family history collection at the Strathalbyn Museum. (not yet)

    • Biography Notes: Source: Beverly Smith, nee Bell, on WikiTree) They moved to Tarcowie from Wilson but the date of the move is not known. Frank, her husband, died there in 1905. Jean as a widow with 2 single daughters, Ethel aged 20 and Linda aged 18 took over the Post Office and may also have operated a shop. Her daughters were at various times employed as telephonist and librarian, and Linda also worked as a dressmaker. Linda was talented in various types of needlework and could simply cut out a garment without the aid of a paper pattern. Ethel was appointed the first librarian of the Institute's Library. In 1908 a Savings Bank agency opened in the Post Office. The daughters married local farmers, Ethel to Bill Bennett who farmed 'Brookdale' until they sold to the Harveys and moved first to Caltowie and later to Western Australia. Linda married Richard Lines and also eventually left the district to take up land elsewhere. Jean Inglis at 63 years of age married again to a retired widower, R. W. Graham but remained as postmistress until a few weeks before her death in 1916. Jean was buried as Jeannie GRAHAM. It has been recorded that 'At a Ladies Night at the Institute (Tarcowie) Miss Pfeiffer played an overture, Miss A. Lines presented a short paper and Miss Inglis some phonograph selections. There were songs and recitations from visiting friends, and Misses E. Bennett, L. Lines, Alice Gutte and Linda Inglis took part in a 'dialogue'.
