RESEARCH NEEDED : There is some evidence (Willowburn) to suggests (no evidence provided) Lachlan married a second time - to Mary McLean in Kilmallie in 1810. Thus Mary McNiven could be the daughter of this Mary McLean and born about 1810 rather than being born to Mary McColl in 1803. |

RESEARCH NEEDED :
We have 10 children of Lachlan MacLean and Mary McColl as Allan (b 1773), Katherine (b 1774), Ann (b 1778), Jean (b 1780), Hugh (b 1782), Lachlan (b 1782) and John (b 1784). And also Alexander (b 1797, Archibald (b ??) and Mary Jean (b 1803).
Their first child was Allan in 1773 when Mary was about 18 years and Lachlan was 22 years old. Their last was possibly Mary in 1803 (or 1810?) when the mother Mary was to 48 (or 55) years and father was about 52 (or 58) years old. So were the parents too old? And were there 30 (or 37) years of child bearing?
There is a 13 year gap between John (b 1784) and Alexander (b 1796), so maybe Mary died some time between 1784 and 1796 and then Lochlan had a second wife - the mother of Alexander, Archibald and Mary Jean. But we have Mary McColl dying in 1847.
There is some evidence (Willowburn) to suggest Lachlan married a second time to a Mary McLean in Kilmallie in 1810, but this is 14 years after Alexander was born.
