Christina and Donald McLEAN from Scotland 1837
||Mary RANKINE |
A gravestone at the Barr Cemetery in Ayrshire has Mary who died 10th Jan 1828 - her age cannot be easily discerned on the gravestone, so we do not know when she was born. The inscription has it that she was the daughter of William Rankine in Northballoch. Other names on the gravestone includes James Rankine and Jane Gemmell and Susan Rankine. This indicates that Mary was a close relative of these people.
It is possible, but not corroborated, that this Mary was the daughter of William who was born in 1799. This would make her the grand-daughter of Jane Gremmell and James, and niece of Susan. If this was the case, maybe Mary died as a young child. She is not listed as one of the children when the William's family migrated a decade later.
[Research: Can someone visit the Barr cemetery and look closely at the gravestone to see how old Mary was when she died.]
