  • Name Susan RANKINE
    • UNCERTAINTY: We cannot confirm that Susan is the daughter of James and Jane.
      * Pro: The gravestone has "Susan daughter of James Rankine in Northballoch who died the 8th Feb 1834 aged 24 years" This same gravestone has the deaths of James and Jane.
      * Con: If she was born in 1810, this is not compatible with her being born in the same year as her possible brother, James Gemmell Rankine (JGR). Also Jane would have been 40 years old, which is quite old for those times - except that it is already accepted that Jane is the mother of JGR.

Note A Wikipedia entry for their son (Dr John Rankine) has the father as James Rankine - that is correct. But the entry has the mother as Jane Paterson - which is wrong because there is an OPR confirming that John's brother, William, married Jane Paterson in 1826 in Barr, Scotland.
