Note |
John Macmasters and Mary MacMillan probably met in Corriebeg near Kinlocheil because their parents were living there.
* Mary's father, Donald MacMillan was probably living there (Memoirs p271).
* John's father might have been living there because John Macleod refers to John's and Mary's daughter (Isabella) as "belonging to the old Lochaber family of the Macmasters, Corriebeg". This is the home to a branch of the MacMasters Clan which was affiliated with Clan Cameron, upon the Estate of Lochiel, circa 1745, with MacMaster tenants (http://www.clan-cameron.org/cam-ref.html).

Alexander MACLEOD, b. 25 May 1836, Inverness Scotland , d. 3 Jun 1910, Edinburgh Scotland (Age 74 years) |
Married |
20 Feb 1863 |
Glasgow [7, 8] |
Children of marriage |
Isabella's sister, Catherine, died the same year as Isabella was married (there were 13 years between them) so Isabella cared for Catherine's daughter, Mary Cattanach for almost 7 years - from when she was 11 years old, to when she reached 18 years in 1870. [1] |
Children of marriage |
John was born 9 years after Alexander and Isabella were married so it is likely that they had other children before John. Soon after their wedding they had the care of Isabella's sister's daughter, Mary for almost 7 years, but she left before John was born. However John describes Mary's time with the family as being "one of them" which implies that there were several other children in the household before John. [1] |
