- There is some uncertainty about whether Ann was the mother of 'our' Simon. Catherine is another possibility - she was born in Duthil and Rothie. In the 1851 census, Simon lists Rothie as his region of birth. There is a possibility that Catherine died and then James married a Mary and/or Ann or Maryanne.
