He explained that tlie moderator would have been present but for the fact that he was engaged in a similar function in his own district, Bnllarat. The wonderful development of Aforongo was a ni utter for sincere congratulation. The church as a wgike was proud of Miss Pratt and her work as head mistress. The programme closed with, school songs, cheers, and the National Anthem.

    Hilda was a nurse but died at 19yoa- from meningitis a hospital acquired infection from workplace in Melbourne Hospital (a probationary nurse and her sister Muriel accompanied her to thier nursing training in Melbourne Hospital. Buried in Apsley Cemetery.

    3 Newspapers all wrote variations of this story. This one from The Narracoorte Herald (SA : 1875 - 1954) dated Tue 31 Jul 1934 Page 2 OBITUARY.
    MISS HILDA ADELE MITCHELL.
    General regret was expressed at Narracoorte when it became known, that Miss' Hilda Adele Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Mitchell, esteemed residents of Apsley, had passed away at the early age of 19 years. The deceased' young lady accompanied her sister to Melbourne early in 1933, to take up the profession of nursing at the Melbourne Hospital, and by strict attention to her training, and by study, she bade fair to attain a 'high standard" in her chosen profession. About the middle of July 1934 the unfortunate young lady became ill, and despite ail that medical skill could do. Miss Mitchell gradually sank and died on Monday afternoon, July 23. Before her departure for Melbourne the deceased took an-active part in the social life of Apsley,-"being an active (worker for the
    Presbyterian Church, and she was also interested in tennis and golf.The remains were conveyed to Apsley for interment, and the funeral on Wednesday was largely attended. The floral tributes were numerous and many came from long distances, and the school children, in charge of Messrs. W. Pascall and A. Barnett, were lined up on either side of the path. An impressive service was read by .the Rev. F. G. Faram at the graveside, in the presence of a large assemblage. The
    pall-bearers were Messrs. Woodbridge (Hamilton), T, Kealy (Apsley), H. L. Miles (Hynam), and Roy Maltin (Wolseley).

      Hilda had been a nurse for 18 months when she died. There has been nothing found as to where it was contracted. This was a time pre antibiotics (1950's in Australia).
