Name |
Donald MACMILLAN [1] |
Born |
1760 or 1765 [2] |
- Possible confusion with another Donald:-
* Source - Geni manager Fiona Joy McMillan has Donald born in 1760 and died 1845 in Corpach Cottage in Fort William. His spouse was Isabel Cameron. Their child was Angus.
* Source - JFM Macleod has Donald born 1765 (not 1760), died in 1845 (same as Geni), spouse Jean (not Isabel) and child Mary (not specifying Angus).

Biography Notes |
Timber is advertised in the Caledonian Mercury on 28th Nov 1795, with Donald Cameron as the 'saw miller at Achnacarry' and Donald MacMillan as the 'ground officer'. We can wonder if that Donald Cameron was the father-in-law of this Donald MacMillan.
* Age is OK: He was about 30 years old at the time of the advertisement.
* Location is OK: In order to be a ground officer for this timber, he would have been located in Achnacarry or Fort William in 1795. He was married in Callich, 9 years before the advertisement - Callich is 20 kms east of Achnacarry. His parents were born in Corriebeg which 18 kms east of Fort William. Also, his daughter married a schoolteacher in Corriebeg, but his was many years later.
* Occupation not OK: He was recorded as an 'Excise Officer' on his daughter's death record. Could his role as excise officer involve the handling, sale and/or export of timber? Maybe not.
* Naming: There would have been many people with these same names in this general area.
* Conclusion: It is possible, but not confirmed, that Donald MacMillan was closely related to Donald Cameron - and that they worked together with the timber.
* This note by Don Gordon in March 2023.
