Threatening his wife:
* Police Courts - 21st Aug 1880 - Thomas Haldane was charged with threatening to cut his wife's throat, and was ordered to find two sureties of £50 each, and to enter into his own recognizances in the sum of £100 to keep the peace for six months.
(Evening Journal, 21st Aug 1880, p2)
* Police Courts - 22nd Nov 1880 - Thomas Haldane was charged with assaulting Henry Charles Hamilton Ayliffe, on November 21, at Kent Town. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. On a charge of threatening to cut his wife's throat, he was ordered to find two sureties in £50 each to keep the peace for three months.

Two Eliza's and two brothers:- Thomas Haldane is the much older brother of Robert who married Eliza Ann McLean who is the niece of Eliza Willock McLean. Catherine, who married Allan McLean was the sister of one Eliza and the mother of the other Eliza. |

Thomas purchased two lots in Kent Town. One property had frontages onto Young Street and Grenfell Street, and the other property fronted Rundle Street. Thomas transferred these properties to James snr as dowry. But Thomas and Eliza continued to live there and ran a lodging house in Young Street. [7] |
