In April 1871, Jane was at Pancras St Matthews in London as a visitor from SA - as recorded on the England Census of 3rd April 1871. On the census her name was spelt Jane H Heldene rather than Haldane.
Maureen McClennan commented that it looks like the poor woman, as an 18 year old, was put on a boat and sent to England to marry someone she did not know. It is thought there must have been friends of the Hamilton and Harrison families who arranged the marriage.
Don Gordon commented that, Jane married Thomas, 10 months after the census, on 13th Feb 1872.

Children of marriage |
Apart from Kenneth, Jane and Albert might have had another child. Maybe Haldane Heath who was a merchant in London who had a son Hugh Hamilton. For this, Judi Mooney refers to Janet Haldane Old's notes from Max Haldane, Dec 1983. [5] |
