Two Elizas and two brothers: Thomas Haldane is the much older brother of Robert who married Eliza Ann McLean who is the niece of Eliza Willock McLean. Catherine Dawson, who married Allan McLean was the sister of one Eliza (Dawson) and the mother of the other Eliza (McLean).

At the time of the marriage Robert was of "Union Grove", Gawler, but they farmed "Kilkerran", Mt Templeton, S.A. 12 miles from Balaklava and north of Adelaide into the 1880s. They moved to Dover St. Maylands, close to the city where their youngest child to survive (another Eliza) was born in 1883. They were next at Vaughans Mansions in Hackney SA.(Still standing 1996 as Romilly House, North Terrace) and Robert died at this address in 1888.
To provide for her still young family Eliza Ann boarded medical students from nearby Royal Adelaide Hospital Once again they moved house, to Fountain Villa in Pirie Street, Adelaide which in later years was demolished to make way for the Blood Bank. |
