William (1799-1882) emigrated from Dalblair, Ayrshire Scotland on the 'Fairfield' to arrive on 30th April 1839. He was accompanied by a large party of relatives consisting of his bachelor brother James Gemmell Rankine, his brother Dr John and wife Mary (nee Watson), his own wife Jane (nee Paterson), their six children, nieces and nephews John and Jane Paterson, Marion Muir, Elizabeth Paterson and Melville Walker. There were servants, one named John Glen, and a great many goods and chattels.
Biography Notes By Gemmell's account (p15), Jane migrated with people who were described as her husband's nieces and nephews - "John and Jane Paterson, Marion Muir, Elizabeth Paterson and Melville Walker". So these were probably the children of Jane's sisters and/or brothers.
Wikipedia's entry for Dr John Rankine has the age of Jane Gemmell Paterson as 19 (ie born c1820), Elizabeth Paterson as 15 years old (c1825), and John Paterson as 17 or 18 years (c1821). Dr John later helped young John found Pitchorum Station.  [2
Biography Notes Jane's family farmed near Barr Village in Ayrshire. This is about 13 kms south east of Girvan, near the Stinchar River.  [3
