By Gemmell's account (p15), Jane migrated with people who were described as her husband's nieces and nephews - "John and Jane Paterson, Marion Muir, Elizabeth Paterson and Melville Walker". So these were probably the children of Jane's sisters and/or brothers.
Wikipedia's entry for Dr John Rankine has the age of Jane Gemmell Paterson as 19 (ie born c1820), Elizabeth Paterson as 15 years old (c1825), and John Paterson as 17 or 18 years (c1821). Dr John later helped young John found Pitchorum Station.
