He served in England and France. He took part in the many of the famous battles of the Western Front : Villers Brettoneux, Amiens, Mont St Quentin and the final attack on the Hindenburg Line in October 1918. He had been promoted to lance-corporal. He was discharged at Sydney on 20th August 1919.
