Name |
Charles MCSWEEN OR MCSWIN [1] |
- Spelt McSwin on his wedding record. I have wrttien to genelaogysa.org.au to review this spelling against all other evidence and the certificate....Their reply is that is how it was written on the marriage certificate and since both bride and groom signed with a cross, it assumed that they were unable to write and read; so error is possible in the spelling of MCSWEEN to MCSWIN. It cant be altered.

Drowned in a tank: Shortly after 5 o'clock this morning, Thomas Holland, boots at Roennfeldt's hotel, reported to the police that a man had drowned at the hotel. The police found an old-age pensioner, Charles McSween, who had been in the district, principally around Oodlawirru, for some years past, had drowned in a talk used for watering the horses, in the hotel yard. He was in a sitting position and the tank contained only 2 ft 6 in of water. Dr Clarke was called and gave the opinion that the deceased had been dead four hours. The Coroner (Mr Dickson) was informed, but considered an enquiry unnecessary, and gave an order for burial.
