NEWSPAPER CLIPPING IN BEN MCLEANS Family bible. at the PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, James Street, Northcote, on July 26, the interesting marriage was celebrated of Mr Edwin J Mclean, grazier, of Angus Plains,SA, second (twin and last of 13 children) son of the late John Mclean of "Waterloo", (farm) Angus Plains, to Miss Queenie Parker, ALCM, elder daughter of Mr Mrs B E Parker, "Norman", Waterloo Road, Northcote, the officiating clergyman being the Rev R W Rock. The bride, who was given away by her father, was gracefully gowned in charming putty shade gabardine costume and dainty white Georgette hat, and carried a bouquet of white roses and fern tied with white satin streamers. She was attended by her sister, Miss Irene Parker, who was daintily attired in fawn gaberdine costume, light fawn and pink hat, and carried a bouquet of pink roses, with pink satin streamers. The best man was Mr E H Sturkey ANZAC, cousin of the bride. The reception was held at the Winter Tea Gardens, Block place, the tables being daintily decorated with Iceland poppies and autumn leaves. The toast of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by the Hon JG Membrey. The honeymoon was spent at Healsesville and Adelaide. The bride travelled in a navy blue tricotine costume and grey silk hat. Many handsome presents and congratualtory telegrams were received, including several cheques. |

- Death; nursed by her dad Benjamin McLean for several years: amid a new wife and family, Olivia was nursed alone and only admitted to General Hospital Strathalbyn SA the week before she passed away. In fact I the author of this note, was born 6.5 weeks after her passing 2 Aug 1955. This must have been a distressing time for Benjamin to lose his own father:Edwin James McLean, after nursing him for months during 1950 & 1951, a new life of marriage in 1952 followed by two little ones, Edwin and Jenny (sick all the time since birth 18mos before) would have been a handful for both parents whilst his wife; Joan Natalie nee Smith, is 8+ months pregnant, 2 little ones (one sick) and a husband doing the work on the farm and doing what and where he could. - "McLean family bible was originally given by Mary Stacey to Mrs Edwin James McLean (Adelaide Hull-"Addie")...(currently in custodianship of Edwin James McLean [Albany WA] in 2016) are copies of several pages of (unknown which newspaper-clippings). We know by family memories [FM] of Joan Natalie McLean that first Addie then Queenie compiled most of the following. 1944: MCLEAN-PARKER Mr and Mrs E J Mclean Maplemore Angas Plains SA annoince the 25th wedding anniversary, solemnised on July26, 1919 at Northcote, Victoria, Presbytarian Church, by Rev Robert W Rock.
Lastly:Mr B E Parker who died at Strathalbyn recently at the age of 83 years, after a short illness, was for many years an esteemed worker in the firm of Trodels, printers, Melbourne (work reference in all media). After retiring from the firm, he and his wife lived at Murray Bridge SA for several years with his dau, Mrs H Fordham. After her death, Mr and Mrs Parker made their home with their only remaining child Mrs E J Mclean of Angas Plains. Mrs Parker predeceased her husband in 1940. In this younger days Mr Parker was a tenor singer in the Scots Church choir Melbourne. He often also accompanied his dau Olivia Mary (queenie) Parker for community entertainment.
