Southern Argus, 2nd May 1918, p3 - COUNTRY NEWS, ANGAS PLAINS, 1st May 1918. An Angas Plains correspondent writes the following appreciation : ' One would look in vain for a face : of the old hardy Scottish pioneers, who first turned the sod on the Plains ; with few exceptions all have passed over the bourne from whence there is no return. As the thin line dwindles, that sadness, natural to man in his inability to succour those for whom his heart yearns, finds, as time goes on, other cares with joys and sorrows, each blending with the other, leading, we hope, to higher things, guided by the Unseen Hand, a sadness, but still sweet memories.

Such was the feeling in the hearts of all, when the news came through that Mrs. Edwin McLean, after an illness of five months, bad passed away. One, who though not a pioneer, has worthily taken her place with that gracious modesty that has endeared her memory to all those who became associated with her. That unselfishness, that proverbial hospitality, the generous spirit that spared not the body but offered it wherever it was needed, at last became exhausted, but now is resting. Our sympathy goes to those she has left behind, who will miss a devoted wife and mother, a dear sister, aunt and friend. Mrs. (Adelaide) McLean took a keen interest m everything in the district, but special interest of late years in connection with comforts for our soldiers ; her heart was with the lads, and little wonder, for sue held rather a unique position, having every- near blood relative who was eligible, from eighteen years old and upwards, enlisted in the A.I.F. Included in these are her only living brother, all her nephews above the age of eighteen, down to her one nephew-in-law, now a prisoner of war in Germany. But her interest was not parochial, as her nature was not selfish, her interest was with every mother's son, her loyalty knew no bounds.

On Sunday, April 28, when friends from far and near gathered to pay their last respects to one they would see no more on earth, the many floral tributes from friends, wreaths of beautiful design, including one from the Milang Knitting Circle, and one from the Angas Plains P.W.M.U., both of which she was an active member, all testified to the bold she had on the hearts of her friends. An impressive service at the grave-side was conducted by her pastor, the Rev. G. C. Love of St. Andrew's Church, of which she was a member, at the pretty cemetery at Strathalbyn, in an atmosphere of sadness we all feel and know. All is well.'

The death occurred here last week of Mrs. McLean, wife of the well-known Angas Plains resident, Mr. E. A. McLean (son of the late Mr. John McLean, one of the first three settlers of Strathalbyn). Mrs McLean was taken ill a month or two ago, . ' and developed unfavorable symptoms soon afterwards, but her recovery was hoped for til a few days prior to her death. She was very popular right through the district, being ever ready to take a part in whatever tended to advance any good cause. For many years she was a valued member of the State Children's local committee, as well as of other institutions. Her remains were laid at rest in the Strathalbyn cemetery on Sunday last, a large cortage following the hearse to the grave, where the Rev. G. C. Love conducted the burial service. Very great sympathy is felt for Mr. McLean and family.
