On August 20th a social evening, in aid of the Tennis Clnb was held, the programme having been arranged by some of the young folk. The school
master, Mr. Ware, and his wife, are live wires and ready to help in every way.Supper was provided, and games and a few dances followed, music being supplied by Misses Lynette Dodd, Lorna McLean (now 26yoa) and J. G. Matheson. |

MILANG A sports picnic was organised by Miss Lorna McLean on the property of her father, Mr. E. J. McLean, "Maplemore," Angas Plains. The proceeds were in aid of Miss McLean's candidature in a queen competition. A large crowd was present, visitors coming from Milang, Strathalbyn, Langhorne's Creek. Finnis and Lake Plains. Horse events, handicap races and a mystery hunt were held. Mr. R. Wyman was in charge of the sports programme. Mrs. E. J. McLean (convener) and numerous assistants served afternoon tea, at which a collection was taken. The mystery hunt was won by Mr. R. Eichner,the high Jump Mr. "C. Moar and R.Wyman, men's handicap race, Mr. L. H.Eichner, ladies' handicap race. Miss E.Dodd. Races were also won by Miss J.Rose and Miss K. Moar. Horse events. Jumping. Mr. W. H.Moar: musical chairs.Mr.P.Fischer:potato race, Angas Davidson. Children's races were won by Jack Daniel, Lawrence Higgins. Jack Moar. Joyce Stevens, and Michael Graney. The afternoon was a financial success. The football club, combined with the girls'hockey club in a euchre tournament and dance in aid of their funds. Prizes for euchre were won by Miss Jean Ross and Mr. James Woodron. Mr. H. Ladner was M.C. Music was supplied by the Musicians. |

WEDDING AT MILANG "RANKIN-BOX" A very pretty wedding was solemnized at the Congregational Church, Milang, on Saturday evening, August 24th, when the Rev. J. R. Digance officiated at the marriage of Doris Maud Rankin, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Rankin, of Milang, and Richard Box, of Kalgoorlie, Westetrn Australia. The bride's girl friends had made a charming setting for the bridal party, with large bowls of lilies, prunus, japonica, daffodils and Iceland poppies. Miss Lorna Edith McLean was her only bridesmaid, and looked smart in a crepe de chene frock, with autumn shaded flowers on a cream ground. She wore a hat to match, and carried a posy to tone with her frock.

On way to Port Elliot Sunday School Community Annual picnic, Lorna left her date because he was so concerned about losing his threepence before they both took a train to the picnic. She advised him to go home and search for it. Never to see him again. It was said his wealth dominated his life. |

Lorna was well known for the tricks her cat Smudge and later the dog Jock did under her training. Smudge was known to on command for an audience jump the full width of a double bed, leap through arm and hoops and as the story goes on one report leap through a lighted hoop.
Outragously pampered puss would go walk about and Lorna would often be seen to be calling and coaxing the disinterested Smudge back home from a night of frolicking with others tabbies. |
