    • The BRB (p283) has Louisa's death as about 1909 (died of cancer about 30 yrs old). This is consistent with Ian Barnes (email 1st Jan 2021) with Louisa's death as 11th June 1907 in Fremantle. This is supported by a newspaper item and burial records in Fremantle cemetery.
Mark Brabant (Family Search) is probably incorrect with a very different death - 16th Oct 1947 in Victoria.

Sturgeon-McLean - On the 17th July at Angas Plains (in the residence of bride's father) by the Rev F Slaney Poole B - George Harvey Sturgeon of Strathalbyn, son of the late Charles Sturgeon - to Christina McLean of Angas Plains, daughter of John McLean.
Children of marriage Page 283 of the BRB has "Charles Buscombe Sturgeon - born 25/2/1881 at Gladstone, S.A. Named for his grandfather Sturgeon (Charles) and the maiden name of his grandmother Elizabeth Sturgeon (nee Buscombe) both of whom are buried at Strathalbyn. The Warner family has no knowledge of Charles whatsoever. There is no death recorded in SA so he must have been about 2 when the family left Gladstone and died in Victoria." He died in 1956 in Norwood (reg 837/438) and buried in North Brighton.
However, CHARLES WAS NOT IN THIS FAMILY - ie his parents were not George Harvey Sturgeon and Christina McLean. In fact, his parents were Davis Sturgeon and Elizabeth Buscumb. He was born on 25th Feb 1881, but in New Glenelg (not Gladstone). This was registration 256/1 as per SA Genealogical Society.

This was labelled "Ted Abbott & Bertha (nee Sturgeon)" on page 338 of BRB whereas it was probably Joseph Phillips & Frances Sturgeon as labelled by Ian Barnes (email 1st Jan 2021)

This photo, from page 337 of the BRB, was labelled "Joe & Frances (nee McLean) Phillips" - but this is probably not correct.
MISTAKEN NAME?: Joe Phillips married Frances Agnes Sturgeon, not Frances McLean. There is a Frances McLean in the family tree (actually Elizabeth Frances McLean, known as Lizzie) and she happens to have been born in the same year and same place as Frances Agnes Sturgeon (actually Lizzie McLean was born on 3rd Sept 1876 in Angus Plains, and Frances Sturgeon was born on 1st May 1876 in Strathalbyn). However Lizzie McLean never married. The compiler of the BRB, Alf McLean was the nephew of Lizzie and he knew her personally so he would not have had her in mind for being married to Joe Phillips. To leave no doubt, Alf placed the photo on the same page as Frances Sturgeon's parents. Perhaps that is where the typo occurred because her mother was a McLean.
MISTAKEN IMAGE?: This photo does not look much like the other photos of Joseph Phillips. "He had a moustache all his life - except for a brief time in the Kalgoorlie Goldfields when he had a beard" (Ian Barnes email on 4th Jan 2021).
SOLUTION?: Maybe the BRB had incorrectly transposed two photos of two sisters - Louise Alberta (Berta) Sturgeon and…
