Biography Notes |
Douglas McLean reminiscences concerning Otto: As a lad his uncle Hughie McLean of Kingston sent him a telegram to say join him in building stables in the Murray mallee area so he was delighted at the opportunity to learn a trade. But an elder brother advised Otto to buy a return ticket. It was not long before he used it as dingoes howled about his tent at night and he became very homesick.
* On his return from war; he had a store at Meningie SA and again later at Murray Bridge SA.
* He was also a postal officer
* He retired in 1959, to the suburb of Torrens Park.
* Otto's great interest was the Masonic Lodge.
* He was sometime church warden and for many years organised church picnics, dances and other fundraising activities.
* Tennis was his main sport and also followed local football.
* Otto died in his 73rd year on 27th Jan 1970, and was cremated at Centennial Park.
