They moved to Tarcowie from Wilson but the date of the move is not known. Frank, her husband, died there in 1905.
Jean as a widow with 2 single daughters, Ethel aged 20 and Linda aged 18 took over the Post Office and may also have operated a shop. Her daughters were at various times employed as telephonist and librarian, and Linda also worked as a dressmaker. Linda was talented in various types of needlework and could simply cut out a garment without the aid of a paper pattern. Ethel was appointed the first librarian of the Institute's Library.
In 1908 a Savings Bank agency opened in the Post Office.
The daughters married local farmers, Ethel to Bill Bennett who farmed 'Brookdale' until they sold to the Harveys and moved first to Caltowie and later to Western Australia. Linda married Richard Lines and also eventually left the district to take up land elsewhere.
Jean Inglis at 63 years of age married again to a retired widower, R. W. Graham but remained as postmistress until a few weeks before her death in 1916. Jean was buried as Jeannie GRAHAM.
It has been recorded that 'At a Ladies Night at the Institute (Tarcowie) Miss Pfeiffer played an overture, Miss A. Lines presented a short paper and Miss Inglis some phonograph selections. There were songs and recitations from visiting friends, and Misses E. Bennett, L. Lines, Alice Gutte and Linda Inglis took part in a 'dialogue'. |

|
Note |
* Jane and Frank must have met when he came to work for Allan (Jane's father) at Meadowbank.
* It is said that Allan was initially not keen on Jane marrying because he thought that Frank was a drifter and would never make a home for her, but the parents must have given in.
* Frank worked as a handyman on various properties and Jane as a housemaid.
* They lived in Kanaka Station, about 16 miles south of Hawker in the Flinders Ranges.
* They later moved to Wilson near Hawker and finally to Tarcowie
* Jane had a store and post office in Tarcowie and Frank went to Broken Hill to work on the mines
* At some stage there was a falling out between Jane and her family. [9] |
Note |
Initially they were around Mt Barker (there, two children were born but died early) and then went to Kanaka Station.
At some stage there was a falling out between Jane and her family (BRB p57) but Jeannie retained her links with Strathalbyn as she returned there for the birth of James at Meadowbank in 1872. |
