- M.C.=military cross at Gallipoli WWI several wounds during his enlistment 1914-1919. enlisted 1914 immediately made a corporal, then inside a few months a Sgt, and then second Lieut. whereafter a yet unexplained presence in the country of Montenegro (just north of Italy) was awarded a silver cross by the King, and soon after during Gallipoli was awarded a military cross in 1918 and thereafter received a very nasty gun shot wound to his L shoulder which eventually caused his termination from the army.

He showed great dash and determination in attacking a strong point which was holding up the advance of his company and with a few men, took 42 prisoners and 2 machine guns. He did excellent work in selecting positions for Lewis Guns which covered the consolidation. His cheerfulness and courage inspired his men with confidence." |
