Children of marriage |
* Isabella's sister, Catherine, died the same year as Isabella was married (there were 13 years between them) so Isabella cared for Catherine's daughter, Mary Cattanach for almost 7 years - from when she was 11 years old, to when she reached 18 years in 1870.
* Thus Alexander and Isabella commenced their married life with caring for Isabella's niece. [4] |
Children of marriage |
John was born 9 years after Alexander and Isabella were married so it is likely that they had other children before John. Soon after their wedding they had the care of Isabella's sister's daughter, Mary for 11 years old, but she left before John was born. However John describes Mary's time with the family as being "one of them" which implies that there were several other children in the household before John. [4] |
