      DEATHS OF OLD COLONISTS.
      LATE MR. THOMAS GEMMELL.June 9 1897 Thomas Gemmell an old resident of district, arid who had been ailing for some time, passed away at his residence "Springfield", on Wednesday morning. The deceased gentleman was born in Scotland in the year 1819, arid therefore was in his 79th year. He came to this colony, together with several other old colonists whom Mr. Gemmell has survived, in 1839, and sorted agricultural pursuits near Mitcham, where he remained for some time. In 1851 he purchased '"Springfield," where he resided continually till the time of his death. The deceased did not take part in any political or public affairs, but was a noted
      agriculturist. This pursuit, however, had been abandoned of recent years to give way to sheep-farming. The late Mr Gemmell married Miss Elizabeth Inglis, the second daughter of the late Mr. James Inglis, of Strathalbyn, and sister to Mrs A. Phillips and Miss Inglis, both of this town, and the consists of two sons and six daughters, Mrs. Domeyer, of Nuriootpa Mrs.and Mrs. Sowter, both of Parkside,and three unmarried daughters for whom much sympathy is felt. The funeral will take place On Friday, 11th inst and the remains will be interred in the Strathalbyn Cemetery.
