NEWSPAPER GOSFORD TIMES ON 10TH JAN 1950 Killed In Fall From Truck A 35-year-old woman died from injuries received when she was thrown from a utility truck on to the side of the roadway t Calga on Friday. The woman, Mrs. Norma McDonald, of 582 Glebe Road, Adamstown, was standing at the rear of the truck when it swerved to avoid a stationary semi-trailer. The utility collided with the semi-trailer, causing Mrs. McDonald to lose balance and fall. Neil Best, of Hamilton, David
Stoddart, 17, of Ada Street, Waratah, and two children were also standing at the rear of the truck. Best, who was also thrown from the truck, was admitted to Gosford District Hospital with a fractured right arm. David McDonald, Mrs. McDonald's husband, who was driving the truck, told Gosford Police that he had been Following a small car for some time when it pulled in to the side of the road. A ray of sun momentarily Blinded him and he did not see the stationary semi-trailer about 20 feet in front of him. He attempted to swerve to the right of the lorry, but struck the rear of it. Not knowing that anyone had been thrown off the truck, he continued on and pulled up in front of the lorry. A Lake Macquarie Ambulance which was travelling to Sydney with a patient came to the collision a few minutes after it had occurred. The officer driving the wagon unloaded his patient and left him at the side of the road, while he took Mrs. McDonald and Best to the Gosford District Hospital.
