    P5 publication "Belvidere" by Lance C Wakefield. "the establishment and expanson of the colony of SA was largely dependent on the surveying of the districs. Until such a survey was completed the land could not be legally owned. Belvidere wa ssurveyed on 27 Mar 1853 by William dawson and Corporal R Johnson." there are two possibilites ....how Belvidere name originated...1. According to Georffrey H Mannings book "From the Romance of Place Names in SA" John Cheriton gave this name when he subdivided Section 2760 Hundred of Bremer into various sized allotments in 1866". At "home" in Kent Belevedere was spelled differently.

    P18 "Belvidere" publication by Lance C Wakefield. FORD CROSSING...heavy bullock wagon teamsters and people going through Belvidere SA to Wellington, Eastern States, or south to Milang for river trade, roads were an important issue. A site of a Belvidere Bridge was in contention between Cheriton and local John Jones. The result being that two bridges were built-"The Belvidere" and "The Cheritons" the latter being opened 4 Jul 1864 by Cheritons second dau Mary, when 11yoa.

      MARRIAGE: (possibly at Holy Trinity, Adelaide as her husband was English) to John Cheriton (b.1829 at Exeter Devonshire UK). John arrived in S.A. in 1848 by the ship "Spartan" when he was aged 19, so he and Jane were both very young when they married the following year.
